What makes a nocturne
A nocturne from the French nocturnal, from Latin nocturnus is a musical composition that is inspired by, or evocative of, the night. The waltz is a dance form.
And since this particular dance is always in triple time 1—2—3, 1—2—3 etc. More specifically, the term most often used to describe singing without words is to vocalize. Vocalizing is usually sung on an open vowel sound or ah, ee, etc. Melo means music and phile is a suffix that can be used for any word to indicate a fanatic or enthusiast.

Vocal music, any of the genres for solo voice and voices in combination, with or without instrumental accompaniment. One of his lesser-known nocturnes, this piece is full of beauty, sadness, and joy. The piece begins with an ambiguous open fifth, and the harmony is not established until the third measure.
The intimately tragic main theme is followed by a series of passionate bursts until the return of the opening ideas. The second nocturne I performed was op. The nostalgia in the opening theme builds to a dark, stormy middle section, and the resigned return of the main theme closes the work. Not all nocturnes are for piano. Many composers have written orchestral nocturnes. I am wanting to compose a second nocturne.
I wonder if that is because the bass in my previous nocturne was all triplets until the last few bars. I know one thing that is critical to call a piece a nocturne is that it is evocative of the night. I only know of Chopin's nocturnes. And I know that Chopin uses a simple bass line, quite often uses triplets, and focuses on the melody in most of his works, not just his nocturnes.
So whenever I write a nocturne or think of writing one, Chopin is the composer who comes to mind. Skip to content Home Arts What is a Chopin nocturne? Ben Davis March 8, What is a Chopin nocturne?
